Are Body Weight Exercises of Benefit to You?

YES, they are great for fitness, fat loss and can be done anywhere.

One of the things I love about fitness is that you don’t need any equipment or financial investment if you really want to get fit. There are many sports and training styles that you don’t need much to get started. I often recommend body weight exercises to all my clients that are very occupied and have a limited schedule to exercise in gyms, or with a personal trainer. The advantage of it is that you can practice any time, anywhere you like and it is excellent to help get a strong and toned, lean body.

Here are a few tips for you to understand a little more about this type of training:

  • Body weight exercises can speed up fat loss as fast as cardiovascular training due to the combination of multiple strength conditioning exercises that are very demanding on the muscles, which help to increase fat burning.
  • Are safe and have less risk of injury compared to some sports and exercises with equipment. That is if the correct posture and movement techniques are used.
  • Can be done in a circuit style, which increases the intensity and can even help with more fat loss
  • Increase muscle tone and strength
  • May assist in rehabilitation and certain medical conditions that need strength and conditioning as part of the treatment plan
  • Are fun to do and can be done outside in the park, at the beach and in the home garden
  • Are the quickest and most effective ways to exercise in the morning if you have no time to go to the gym and PT. Get it happening in your own living room!
  • Can be as intense as cardiovascular exercises
  • Only take 20-30 minutes to do
  • As a health and fitness professional I highly recommend body weight exercise to my clients, friends and family. As mentioned before they are excellent for those busy people who have a limited time to go to the gym. My favorite body weight exercises are:
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • One leg squats
  • Push ups
  • Chin ups (need a chin up bar for that)
  • Leg raising Abs
  • Mountain climbers
  • Crunches
  • Prone holds

  • There are many more varieties and versions you can perform of body weight exercises but I have kept it simple for you.
